I urge young people to consider getting involved in outdoor sports. In addition to fishing I like shooting. I remember my Dad taking us to the woods, my brother Donnell, Cousin Carla and me to shoot his rifles and pistols. My favorite was the 22 caliber pump rifle. I also remember that first single shot 20 gauge shotgun. Wow, it kicked like a mule! Every autumn we started the season with the ride out to Sauvie Island to the free shotgun clinic. Then in the winter we hunted waterfowl with Rian Strong in North Sauvie Island. Those were great days. Rising well before daylight and getting to the blind before legal shooting time. Many times we had a limit of 7 ducks each by midday.

Traveling back to Mississippi in December of '08 was a nostalgic family event.  We hunted deer with Donnell Berry, visited the hunting clubs in the area and saw some fine examples of taxidermy.

There's nothing like going home for the holidays.
