A BitterSweet Story - Cloud 9
As summer begins to fade thoughts of the new school year begin to enter the collective mind set. We are reminded of the passage of time. What was once so sure begins to fade and soon, oh too soon, our memories are all that remains of the once sure and present. It is a bittersweet existence in many ways, but given the choices only a nihilist would decline such memories. August 12, 2006 marked the last concert of a vocal group known as “Cloud 9″. Their concert was held at the Community Music Center on the corner of 33rd & Francis, SE Portland. The ears that heard those final notes will forever be changed…
“Don Anderson started this group in May of 2005 when some boys came and asked him if he would help them start a singing group. Since that time Cloud 9 has taken off. Through hard work they landed their first “gig” at the acoustically amazing Oaks Amusement Park. We know that it is hard to think that things could get better from that, but they did. The group went on to such things as singing at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, a Blazer Game and had the honor to be the first vocal group to ever march in the Grand Floral Parade. They also sang for the Rose Queen Coronation. from zero to hero, just like that with the help of Don Anderson who put in far more time than anyone could have dreamed — and dealt with 9 high school boys at his house anywhere from twice to five times a week — none of this could have been possible without him!” from a tribute to Don Anderson by the boys.
NLE Media Productions is proud of the work these outstanding young men have done. Their mentor, Don Anderson is an example to us all. He brought out the best and those who heard these young men sing are twice blessed. Their time has moved on and hopefully a new song will rise from the seeds they planted. DiPrima Dolci celebrates 4 year Anniversary - Pat DiPrima: owner
I learned about DiPrima Dolci as part of my running regimen. I am a diabetic and don’t take insulin or other medicants. Instead, I regulate my blood sugar by running. My routes are fashioned around the various delis, coffee shops and cafes that dot the landscape. My three and six mile jogs just happen to line up with Killingsworth St and Denver Ave as the half way point. Guess what cafe is situated at those coordibnates? DiPrima Dolci!
Rather than down those lousy tasting glucose tablets to prevent low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), I drop into Di Prima for a non-fat latte. If I’m feeling a little light-headed I add a anise biscotti to the tab. What great therapy it is. Friendly help and patrons. Delicious food. What more could a diabetic want in life? So, when I learned about Pat’s 4 year anniversary I jogged down there with a semi-steady cam and shot some “anniversary” footage. Enjoy! DiPrima Dolci Anniversary Video
