Small Business Forum - May 2007 - 1 Year Anniversary
One year ago this month we started posting videos of our Small Business Forum on the net. This month and next we are taking time off as we prepare and engage ourselves in a caravan to Boise, Salt Lake City, Bryce Canyon, The Grand Canyon, Zion, Sidona and all places between. So we have put together a list of speakers we have had over the last year. It is not a complete list by any means, but it represents the kind of subject matter near and dear to the Small Business Forum. We start with the first part of Anne E. Denecke’s keynote address from April 2007:
Anne E. Denecke; Dr. Laura Torgerson; Renee Mitchell; Stewart Kent; John Doherty; Shareefah Abdullah
At NLE Media Productions we offer many services including the editing that was done in the videos shown on this blog. For more details on what we can do for your business or organization:

Dr. Laura Torgerson - “Stress: symptoms,/causes/solutions”
This forum exists for the purpose of bringing small businesses together to share, network and learn from others. To that end, each month we bring in a keynote speaker on various topics. This month we were graced by Dr. Laura Torgerson, co-owner of the Everyday Wellness Clinic, 1033 SW Yamhill St. #300, 503-222-1315, who spoke to us about “Stress” - symptoms, causes and solutions. You can read Dr. Laura’s bio at: Dr. Laura Bio. This is a subject that small businesses need to pay attention to. You can view her presentation by clicking on this link: Dr. Laura Video.
We also ask members of our forum to tell us about their businesses. Corey C. Rust, coreyrust@gmail.com, 971-998-5381, spoke to us about his business venture and has provided a PowerPoint presentation: ACN Overview. You can view his presentation at: Corey Video ACN’s website is: www.acninc.com
A subject that came up during our meet & greet period was about bio-diesel vehicles. You can read a great deal more about this subject by going to www.plantdrive.com
Edwina Wasson - “Reducing Stress - improving nutrition, implimenting techniques . . .”
One of the things that I remember so well from my last business (The Burnt Pony, Inc. 1974 - 1995) was how little time I took for myself. Always meeting deadlines, start early, finish late. Worry about meeting the rent, utilities, etc. Family responsibilities and committments to church, school, family, friends. But I never seemed to have time to take care of myself. Stress. Then, more stress. Soon, I was ill all of the time. No time to be sick, but less time to be well. Kind of like the “walking dead”. Sheer “will” kept me going, and if I had known it, the grace of God was in there somewhere.
I had to leave it all behind and take a job in the corporate world. Then I spent 11.5 years regretting leaving the world of creativity I had been in. Stress. More stress. Finally, I decided to start a business where I could do what I loved most - create. But this time I wanted my business to help others not make the mistakes I had made. I wanted a business that was not only creative, but offered mentoring and encouragement to others. The Small Business Forum grew out of that desire. And each month with the help of like-minded individuals such as Saan Patterson & Miss Anita R. Smith of Hannah Bea’s Poundcake and More, we reach out to the community. We have been blessed with outstanding speakers at our forums and this month was no exception.
Edwina Wasson, an independent associate of Oasis LifeSciences, gave our keynote address: “REDUCING STRESS - IMPROVING NUTRITION, IMPLEMENTING TECHNIQUES & TOOLS THAT ENERGIZE YOU TO FEEL & PERFORM BETTER”

Shareefah Abdullah - Hot Ovations Communications Coaching & Training Co.
How do you spell “Success”? The answer to that question was the keynote topic for this evening’s Small Business Forum. Last month we talked about having the “heart of a servant” –service to others. This month we followed up with a wonderful presentation by Shareefah Abdullah of “Hot Ovations Communications Coaching & Training Co.”. The keynote speech was entitled: “Help, I’m a Success! Mentorship, Motivation and Magic“. Though we captured the evening’s proceedings on video, you really cannot receive the full impact unless you are part of the live production. Nevertheless, it is still an impresive presentation on video.

Of course we always open the floor to small businesses so that they can have the opportunity to talk about their passion. We have included their presentations in the above video. As usual the evening festivities were hosted by the King of Hams, moi! If you can’t have fun doing this, then why bother breathing? Have fun with life!
