The 24th Annual Tribute to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - The Audacity of Hope transcends the Tenacity of Despair
Once again The World Arts Foundation, Inc. launches preparations for the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute. 2009 marks the 24th consecutive year of this event. This blog will present behind the scenes video of the meetings and preparations that take place prior to and the day of the celebration. This is truly a labor of love of many people who come together and share a common dream. This blog will allow those who can not make a meeting be able to review what went on. It is also a blog for the public to share in the excitement and dedication that so many volunteers engage in as they have for 24 years. Comments can be made at bottom of this blog entry. We will post entries as soon as we have them edited. So come back often.
October’s meeting was held at Ken Berry’s home in Happy Valley. We have split the video into two parts. Part one is now available. (SEE LINK BELOW) We will issue part two the week of November 2, 2008. Be sure to come back often for updates. Be sure to visit The World Arts Foundation for historical & current information: http://www.worldartsfoundationinc.org/

December - End of Year Thoughts
Season’s Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year!
Our November Small Business Forum was lightly attended. If you recall, there were threats of freezing rain throughout the day. As it turned out, we had a nice little get together with a few friends, sharing stories and poems. We made a short night of it avoiding complications from the inclement weather.
If you have been following any of the hype surrounding Microsoft’s latest operating system, “Vista”, you have to be wondering what is going on in Renton? As a former programmer and systems analyst I have been watching this unfold with great skepticism. I must say this is probably the worse release of a bloated operating system, ever. What galls me is that Microsloth has bragged about how many millions of dollars and thousands of new IT jobs will be created as a result of this new product. Since when is the need for more service techs a good thing for consumers? If it is so complex and buggy as to require all of this added infrastructure, then count me out. Remember, you, the consumer will be ponying up the millions of dollars required to maintain these thousands of new jobs. A fellow observer, Ron Wackerly, sends this link on the problems Vista will create just in one area of hardware: http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.txt
Joan Stewart publishes a wonderful site, http://www.publicityhound.com/, appropriately named. If you are looking for ways to promote your business, be sure to link up with this site. She also publishes an eBook http://tinyurl.com/y4dnwr filled with hints and tips you can start using today to promote your business. Please check it out.
Lastly, what would a Small Business Forum Post be without links to some of our latest videos? Here are 2 we shot in Washington DC this past October:

NLE Media Productions on the Road - “Friday Harbor”
Back in the late ’50s there was a cowboy show on the tube called, “Have Gun Will Travel”. It was about an erstwhile hired gun, who traveled the West making justice happen for the highest bidder–as far as I could remember.
I don’t have a gun, but as a freelancer my cameras and I pretty much hit the road for the highest bidder. Now that my children have grown and moved on, that would make my wife, Carol, the highest bidder. We have started traveling and take the gear wherever we go. Our plans include visiting the Grand Canyon, touring the U.S. and eventually, travelling to Ireland and Italy. We hope to produce some nice documentary footage along the way and learn about small business wherever our travels take us.
This Memorial Day weekend we spent some time touring Friday Harbor. It was a charming place to spend a quiet afternoon. Here is a short slideshow of the day: Friday Harbor
